PANAJI: WRD Minister Subhash Shirodkar said that eue to constant efforts of the state government, the ground water in the State is in safe zone.
“The Government is consistently working on water harvesting structures, like Dams, MI tanks, bandharas, rain water harvesting structure etc,” said Shirodkar
He further said that department have constructed around 300 bandharas, rejuvenated 164 lakes under Amrut Sarovar and have recently constructed 33 nos of rain water Harvesting Structures.
“The dynamic Ground Water estimation is a regular exercise conducted jointly by Water Resources Department and Central Ground Water Board(GOI) ,where in the performance of the Ground water is being monitored through the observation wells located in the State,” he said
Shirodkar said that the observations are published in the form of report once in two years. The report of the year 2025 is under preparation and will be released shortly.
He also issued stern warnings had been issued, and fines ranging from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh will be imposed on anyone found guilty. “Some individuals have dug illegal borewells in Chimbel.
Based on the information, there are about 60 to 70 such borewells. The Assistant Engineer and Junior Engineer from WRD will conduct inspections, and, with police assistance, they will ensure these wells are disconnected,” Shirodkar said.
He added that under the Goa Ground Water Act 2002, fines of Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh can be imposed for illegal borewells.
