VASCO: A group of 40 people were trained in the profession of Bee Keeping by the Goa Khadi and Village Industries Board ( GKBVIB ) headed by Cortalim MLA Anton Vas.
The training program was conducted by Leslie Pereira, who trained the group on the benefits and income aspect of the Bee Keeping initiative in the presence of Cortalim MLA Anton Vas, GKVIB Member Roquezinho D’Souza and Cortalim ZP Member Merciana Vas.
Speaking to the media later, Anton Vas said that the initiative was taken by GKBVI to provide self-employment opportunities to the Goans.
“We had an awareness meeting on 15th January to bring forth the various schemes of GKVIB before the people, and we got a demand from the people to offer them training on the Bee Keeping schemes. We have now got this special training done here for a group of around 40 enthusiastic Entrepreneurs by Leslie Pereira. I appeal to the people to come forward to make the most of the schemes available under GKVIB as a source of self-employment,” said Vas.
GKVIB Member Roquezinho D’Souza said that the bee-keeping schemes has received tremendous response from the people across various locations in Goa.
“I thank the GKVIB Chairman and Cortalim MLA Anton Vas for having taken the initiative of creating awareness of the various schemes available to us. The people immediately gave their names for Bee Keeping on the same day, and that training was fixed today so that people can earn a livelihood through this profession,” he said.
Cortalim ZP Merciana Vas said that she was happy to see 70 per cent of women interested in the Bee Keeping schemes.
“The women’s participation in large numbers shows that the scheme will be a great success because women don’t want to be left behind in any field of life. The government cannot offer Government jobs to everyone, and these schemes, which have so many subsidies, can help you earn more. I appeal to all the women to come forward and make the most of such schemes,” said Vas.
GKVIB trainer Leslie Pereira said that the Beekeeping business could earn a person upto Rs 7 lakhs easily
” The MLA Anton Vas is down to earth and has given me this platform to train people. The people are very interested in the beekeeping course, which is a very simple buisness. This industry has taken a big jump post the Covid Pandemic, and this business has a very small investment of Rs 7000 which can earn you up to Rs 7 lakhs. The bees and the box is provided by the GKVIB, and the bees do the work of collecting honey which will generate income for us by only maintaining and keeping a watch using simple techniques,” said Periera.
