PORVORIM: The Goa State Biodiversity Board (GSBB) held its 45th Board Meeting at Porvorim, focusing on key initiatives aimed at strengthening biodiversity conservation across the state.
The meeting reviewed progress on Biodiversity Heritage Sites, strengthening of Biodiversity Management Committees (BMCs), and preparations for the Goa State Biodiversity Conservation Awards 2025.
A major outcome of the meeting was the approval of the Goa State Biodiversity Strategy & Action Plan, which will now be taken forward through consultations with MLAs and Heads of Departments to ensure effective implementation at all levels.
The Board also approved the onboarding of specialised agencies for wetland ground-truthing, a crucial step toward scientific mapping and conservation of Goa’s vulnerable wetland ecosystems.
Chairing the meeting, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant reiterated the government’s commitment to safeguarding Goa’s natural wealth.
“Goa’s biodiversity is one of its greatest strengths. The State is committed to protecting its rich natural heritage through coordinated action, scientific planning, and active community participation,” CM Sawant said.
He emphasised the need to empower Biodiversity Management Committees and ensure that conservation efforts are aligned with grassroots needs.
The GSBB also reviewed ongoing projects, status of People’s Biodiversity Registers, and measures to enhance inter-departmental coordination for biodiversity protection.
