PANAJI: The Goa State Environment Impact Assessment Authority (GSEIAA) has issued a stop work order to Worldwide Resorts & Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. after Viresh Borkar, a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA), lodged a complaint citing alleged violations of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986.
The complaint highlighted construction activities taking place on properties in Bambolim Village, Tiswadi Taluka, Goa, which were allegedly undertaken without the required Environmental Clearance (EC). The properties in question, which span multiple survey numbers (14/1, 14/2, 15/1, 16/1, 17/1, 17/2, 17/3, 18/1, 19/1, 19/2, 19/3, 20/1, 20/2, 20/3, 21/1 to 8, 31/1, 35/1) and Plot No. 358, have been found to be in violation of the EIA Notification 2006, which mandates that certain construction projects receive clearance before proceeding.
In response, the GSEIAA has issued an official order directing the company to immediately halt all construction activities on the site. The order, made under Section 5 of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986, prohibits any further civil work from being carried out on the land until the necessary environmental clearance is obtained.
The authority has also warned of serious legal consequences if the company fails to comply with the order. Violations could lead to penalties under Section 15 of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986, which includes the possibility of imprisonment or fines.
This development highlights the state’s efforts to protect Goa’s environment, ensuring that all construction activities adhere to the state’s environmental laws and regulations.
