Benaulim: Guardian Angel SC lifted the 34th Super Soccer Football Tournament crown after a commanding 2-0 victory over Fr. Agnel C Paroda in a rain-soaked final at Benaulim. The hero of the night, Regan Costa, opened the scoring as early as the 7th minute and later sealed the win with a second-half strike, earning himself the ‘Man of the Finals’ award. Despite the heavy downpour slowing the game, Paroda enjoyed phases of dominance and came close to equalising through a penalty, but Guardian Angel’s goalkeeper Oswin Rodrigues pulled off a spectacular save to deny them.
Guardian Angel’s backline, marshalled by Cruz Gomes, stood firm, while midfield dynamo Reston Costa ensured stability in the centre. The team’s all-round brilliance, coupled with Regan Costa’s clinical finishing, proved too strong for Paroda. The other individual awards were also shared between the two finalists, with Livon Clemente of Fr. Agnel Paroda winning Best Defender of the Tournament and Ravil Fernandes named Best Goalkeeper of the Tournament, while Godwin Fernandes finished as the Highest Scorer. Regan Costa capped off a memorable tournament by also taking home the Best Forward and Best Goal awards.
The pulsating finale concluded with a glittering prize distribution ceremony, with cash prizes and trophies handed over by MLA Vijai Sardessai, GFA President Dr. Caetano Fernandes, social worker Warren Alemao, Benaulim sarpanch Xavier Pereira, Panchayat members, GFA executive members, and other dignitaries. With this victory, Guardian Angel SC not only claimed the coveted title but also cemented their status as one of Goa’s most formidable football sides.
