Benaulim: Guardian Angel SC delivered a commanding midfield performance to secure a 2–1 triumph over United Club of Verna in the 34th Super Soccer Football Tournament at the Benaulim Panchayat ground.
Right from kick-off, Guardian Angel took charge, controlling possession and tempo while keeping Verna under constant pressure. Their early dominance was rewarded in the 9th minute when Preston found the net with a composed finish after a slick exchange between Ivon and Royston Costa. Verna’s goalkeeper, Myron Fernandes, stood firm to prevent further damage in the first half with a string of fine saves.
After the break, Guardian Angel intensified their attacks, with Preston Castano’s pace and precision down the left flank repeatedly troubling Verna’s defence. The pressure paid off in the 38th minute when Regan Costa coolly slotted home to double the lead.
Verna managed to reduce the deficit late in the game, courtesy of an own goal from their defender Sheldon Pereira, but Guardian Angel remained firmly in control until the final whistle.
Regan Costa’s all-round brilliance earned him the Man of the Match award, presented by local panchayat member Felicia Noronha.
