MARGAO: Guardian Angel Sports Club defeated Navelim Sporting Club 3-1 to emerge champions in the Cana-Benaulim inter-village football tournament organized by Cana-Benaulim Sporting Association and played at Dando football ground, Benaulim.
Jaison Fernandes opened the scoring for Guardian Angel in the 15th minute. Later, Ronaldo Pereira equalized for Navelim SC in the 29th minute on a penalty kick. Half-time score 1-1 draw.
In the second half of the game, Preston Castanha gave the lead to Guardian Angel SC in the 33rd minute while Godwin Fernandes made the issue more safe, scoring the third goal for Guardian Angel SC in the 46th minute of play.
The winner’s Guardian Angel SC was awarded 60,000 plus trophies while Navelim SC had to be content with 50,000 plus trophies.

Capt. Viriato Fernandes MP of South Goa was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up in the presence of Rev. Fr. Ligorine D’Costa, Capt. Venzy Viegas, MLA of Benaulim constituency other dignitaries and club officials.
