PANAJI: Guardian Angel Sports Club, Curchorem, booked their place in the finals of the 1st Antonio Colaco Memorial Football Tournament with a convincing 3-1 victory over hosts Mandopa Sports Club in the semifinal held at the Rosary Church Ground, Navelim.
Mildroy Menezes opened the scoring for Guardian Angel in the 9th minute with a neat finish, and Jaison Dias doubled the lead in the 20th minute, giving the visitors a strong 2-0 advantage by halftime. Ronaldo Pereira came close to adding a third, but his powerful strike narrowly missed the target.
Mandopa SC came out fighting in the second half, creating several scoring opportunities. However, the resolute Guardian Angel defence stood firm, frustrating the home team’s efforts. In the 31st minute, Mandopa were awarded a penalty, which was successfully converted by Ronaldo Pereira to reduce the deficit to 2-1.
Despite the pressure, Guardian Angel maintained composure and sealed the win in the 43rd minute when Mildroy Menezes completed his brace, finishing off a precise pass from Cyril Dias to make it 3-1.
For his outstanding performance, Mildroy Menezes was named Man of the Match, with the award presented by GFA referee Caitano Pereira.
