MARGAO: Guirdolim Club defeated Varca Sports Club 1-0 to enter into the semifinals of the St.Anthony Festival Cup 2024 organised by St.Anthony Sports Club Assolda and played at Moll ground Assolda.
Both the teams played attacking soccer from the word go and Guirdolim Louie Noronha’s powerful shoot from the edge of the box was punched away for a corner by Varca goalkeeper Muhammed in the 6th minute of play while Varca Aaron Barreto’s header from the box away for a corner by Alwyn faria goalkeeper of Guirdolim before the half time and Both teams remained goalless draw 0-0 at the half time.
Changing over the job Cardozo of Varca capitalised on Aaron’s through pass but his shot deflected Guirdolim’s defence Akram and went for a corner in the 40th minute while the all-important goal came in the 46th minute of play when Joaquim Carvalho fed Alrich palmetto who beat Varca defence and goalkeeper and placed the ball in the net.
Then Varca tried hard to find the equaliser but Guirdolim’s defence remained intact and denied scoring opportunities and referee David Rebello blew the final whistle to end the regular time.
