PANAJI: Goa Waste Management Corporation (GWMC) Board, led by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, approved the State’s E-Waste Policy 2024.
In an effort to train the stakeholders on waste management, the Board also chose to introduce a Massive Online Open Courseware (MOOC).
CM Chaired a meeting of the Goa Waste Management Corporation (GWMC) at Mahalaxmi, Altinho, Panaji in the presence of Revenue Minister, and the Board Members of GWMC.
The meeting facilitated productive discussions and key decisions to strengthen waste management initiatives in Goa.
Outcomes included the approval of the E-Waste Policy, reaffirming the state’s commitment to sustainable waste management practices.
The Board also resolved to hand over 5,000 square meters of land, along with two existing sheds at Kakoda IDC in South Goa; previously utilized by GWMC as a Material Recovery Facility (MRF) to the Goa Handicraft, Rural and Small-Scale Industries Development Corporation Ltd.
GWMC has also developed a Massive Online Open Courseware (MOOC) aiming to train various stakeholders in Goa and India in the field of waste management.
A notable achievement highlighted during the meeting was the revenue of ₹38,56,515 earned by GWMC through the auction of vehicles and metal waste, showcasing its efficiency as the nodal agency.
Additionally, the Corporation decided to float new tenders for the collection, transportation, and segregation of solid waste, including non-biodegradable and dry waste.
Approval was also granted for allocating land to GAIL for the establishment of a 150 tons per day wet waste processing plant, further enhancing waste management infrastructure in the State.
Goa remains steadfast in its commitment to strengthening its waste management systems. The Government of Goa is proactively adopting advanced technologies, modern equipment, and innovative systems to ensure sustainable and efficient waste management across the State.
