Navelim: The Goa Waste Management Corporation (GWMC) and the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) jointly conducted an enforcement drive to curb illegal dumping of garbage along roadsides. The drive commenced at 7 am near Umeya Mercado Mall under the jurisdiction of the Navelim Village Panchayat in Salcete.
The enforcement action was carried out in the presence of Shri Adarsh Dessai, BDO Salcete; Shri Saiel Kamat, Assistant Manager, GWMC; Shri Siddhant Desai, Junior Environmental Engineer, GSPCB; and Shri Krupesh Dessai, Engineer, GWMC. Local panchayat representatives including Shri Mariano Paulo Vincente Pereira, Sarpanch of Navelim Village Panchayat, and Shri Sandeep Halyali, Secretary, Navelim Village Panchayat, were also present. Police support was provided by Shri Swadesh Dessai, PSI, Goa Police, along with Shri Rohan Naik, Police Constable.
Officials maintained strict vigil at identified dumping-prone spots and interacted with locals and passersby, warning them against disposing of waste along the roadside. The drive aimed at creating awareness about proper waste disposal practices while deterring habitual offenders through enforcement and monitoring.
Authorities reiterated that such joint drives will be conducted regularly to ensure cleanliness, environmental protection, and compliance with solid waste management norms. Residents were urged to cooperate with the authorities and adopt responsible waste disposal methods to keep their surroundings clean.
