Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Hardik Pandya has been hit with a hefty ₹24 lakh fine by the BCCI for maintaining a slow over rate during his team’s IPL 2025 clash against Gujarat Titans at the Wankhede Stadium. The match, which ended in a last-ball thriller and was affected by rain, saw MI lose by three wickets under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method.
According to an official IPL statement, this was Mumbai’s second over-rate offence of the season under the league’s Code of Conduct. As a result, Pandya was fined ₹24 lakh, while the rest of the MI players, including the impact substitute and any concussion replacements, were each fined either ₹6 lakh or 25% of their match fees — whichever amount was lesser.
In addition to MI’s punishment, Gujarat Titans’ head coach Ashish Nehra was also penalized by the match officials. Nehra, who appeared visibly agitated during multiple rain delays and was seen in animated discussions with umpires, was found guilty of breaching the IPL Code of Conduct.
The IPL release confirmed that Nehra was fined 25% of his match fees and handed one demerit point for violating Article 2.20, which deals with “conduct contrary to the spirit of the game.” He admitted to the Level 1 offence and accepted the match referee’s decision, which is final and binding in such cases.
The match itself, which saw a series of rain interruptions, concluded well past midnight and drew attention for both its on-field drama and the disciplinary actions that followed.
