New Delhi: Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya commended English allrounder Will Jacks for his outstanding all-round display in the team’s crucial IPL 2025 victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Wankhede Stadium. Jacks’ contributions with both bat and ball played a pivotal role in guiding Mumbai to their second straight win of the season, elevating them to seventh place on the points table.
Will Jacks delivered a match-defining performance, taking 2 wickets for just 14 runs in his three overs and then scoring a quickfire 36 runs off 26 balls, including three fours and three sixes. This marked a significant turnaround after a slow start to the season, where his previous scores were modest (11, 16, 5, 22, and 1*), and he had secured only one wicket in Mumbai’s opening game against Chennai Super Kings. Against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Jacks claimed the key wickets of Travis Head and Ishan Kishan, bolstering Mumbai’s bowling attack.
The victory moved Mumbai Indians to seventh on the IPL points table, a vital boost for the franchise. Alongside Jacks, opener Ryan Rickelton contributed a solid 31 runs, while Suryakumar Yadav provided quickfire support with 26 runs off 15 balls, featuring two sixes and two boundaries. The bowling unit was highly effective, with Jasprit Bumrah returning figures of 4-0-21-1 and Trent Boult executing lethal yorkers to finish with 4-0-29-1. Together, they built a disciplined bowling spell that kept Sunrisers Hyderabad under pressure throughout the match.
Post-match, Hardik Pandya praised Jacks’ versatility, describing him as a valuable asset who excels in three key areas: fielding, bowling crucial overs, and explosive batting. Pandya noted the team’s confidence in Jacks, especially during tense moments when Mumbai needed 42 runs from 42 balls. Emphasizing the importance of composure, Pandya explained how Jacks maintained his calm and paced the innings well, helping avoid unnecessary risks and steering the team to victory.
Mumbai Indians will next face Chennai Super Kings at their home ground on Sunday, April 20, 2025, looking to continue their winning momentum and improve their standing in the tournament.
