Haris Rauf gets a two-match suspension after Asia Cup 2025 India-Pakistan clash; Suryakumar Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah fined, Sahibzada Farhan penalized for controversial gestures.
New Delhi: The ICC has handed Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf a two-match suspension following disciplinary breaches during the tense India-Pakistan encounter at the Asia Cup 2025. Indian players Suryakumar Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah were also fined their full match fees for their involvement in the on-field altercation, while Pakistan’s Sahibzada Farhan received a separate penalty for an inappropriate celebration.
The decision was announced after match referees Richie Richardson and Andy Pycroft conducted a series of hearings into incidents that occurred during and after the match. Rauf, who accumulated four demerit points within a 24-month period, will now miss Pakistan’s first two ODIs against South Africa scheduled for November 4 and 6.
Rauf’s actions, including an alleged provocative hand gesture directed at spectators referencing political tensions, were ruled a serious violation of the ICC Code of Conduct. His conduct added to the controversy that surrounded the fiercely contested match, which saw several flashpoints between players from both sides.
Pakistan opener Sahibzada Farhan was fined 30 percent of his match fee and received one demerit point after he marked his half-century with an “AK-47-style” gesture an act deemed inappropriate by officials.
The ICC stated that the penalties were necessary to maintain discipline and uphold the spirit of the game, especially during high-profile contests where emotions often run high. The governing body confirmed that both cricket boards have been notified of the sanctions, and additional comments from the respective teams are expected soon.
The India-Pakistan clash had drawn significant attention for its intensity and competitiveness, but the post-match disciplinary fallout has once again highlighted the fine line between passion and misconduct in one of cricket’s most emotionally charged rivalries.
