PANAJI: Goa Under 19 women’s team endured their second consecutive setback in the Under 19 Women’s One Day Cricket Tournament after going down to Uttar Pradesh by five wickets at the Infipro Sports Club ground in Vadodara on Monday. Despite a spirited batting effort led by captain Harshita Yadav, Goa were unable to defend a modest total as Uttar Pradesh completed the chase comfortably.
After winning the toss and choosing to bat, Goa showed improvement from their previous outing but struggled to build partnerships. The team was bowled out for 138 in 37.1 overs, with Harshita standing tall in an otherwise difficult innings. The skipper played a responsible and composed knock of 77 runs from 96 deliveries, striking 11 boundaries and anchoring the innings almost single handedly. Support from the other end was limited, with Sanchita Sail being the only other batter to reach double figures with 12 runs.
Uttar Pradesh bowlers maintained consistent pressure, preventing Goa from gaining momentum. Khushi Tyagi and Siddhi Mishra were the standout performers with the ball, claiming three wickets each and ensuring that Goa never threatened to post a challenging total.
In reply, Uttar Pradesh appeared in trouble early as Goa’s bowlers struck at regular intervals. The chasing side was reduced to 31 for 3 and later 62 for 4, raising hopes of a potential comeback. However, a crucial partnership between Sanvi Bhatia and Khushi Tyagi changed the course of the match. The pair added 61 runs, displaying calm and maturity to steady the innings and guide their team towards the target. Sanvi top scored with 42, while Tyagi contributed a valuable 33.
Goa’s bowlers delivered a disciplined performance despite the defeat. Usma Khan returned figures of 2 for 30, while Angel D’Costa picked up 2 wickets for 41 runs, keeping the contest alive until the later stages.
Although the result went against them, Goa will draw encouragement from their improved showing. The team will look to regroup and convert promising performances into results when they face Puducherry in their next match on the 17th.
