Ayesha Takia Alleges Hatred for Maharashtra in Goa After Husband’s Arrest
In a dramatic turn of events on Monday evening in Goa’s Candolim area, actress Ayesha Takia’s husband, Farhan Azmi, was booked by the police following an altercation that began over allegations of rash driving. The incident escalated into a heated confrontation involving locals, who allegedly targeted Azmi and his son for being from Maharashtra. Ayesha Takia has since taken to social media to express her outrage, claiming that her family faced a terrifying ordeal at the hands of local “goons” who cursed them for their origins and the luxury vehicle they were driving.
Ayesha Takia described the night as “a night of horror” for her family, stating that her husband and son were brutally bullied and threatened by a large crowd of nearly 150 people. She alleged that despite calling the police for help, Farhan was booked instead. “The hatred for Maharashtra has reached unbelievable heights in Goa… as they repeatedly cursed Farhan and my son for being from Maharashtra and having a big car,” she wrote. Ayesha emphasized that they possess video evidence and CCTV footage, which they plan to share with authorities. She expressed her faith in the Indian justice system, stating, “We are cooperating with the law enforcement agencies, and we believe in the justice of the system and our Indian courts.”
The incident began when Farhan Azmi, driving a luxury SUV, was stopped by locals who accused him of reckless driving. The situation quickly turned tense, with Azmi calling the police and reportedly warning the locals that he had a licensed firearm for protection. The police confirmed that Farhan presented a valid arms license and permit to carry his gun in Goa. Despite both parties being taken to the police station, no formal complaints were filed. However, a state-initiated complaint was registered under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita due to the disturbance of public peace.
