CANACONA: A truck carrying dry grass went up in flames after coming in contact with overhead live electricity wire at Soliem in Khola on Tuesday afternoon.
According to sources, the truck has an aluminium body carrier, bearing registration no. GA-08 U-8001 was loaded with dry grass in the Soliem area and while negotiating a sharp turn on the narrow road, some dry grass came in contact with the overhead electricity live alignment and caught fire.
On realising the hay is engulfed in fire, the driver boldly drove the vehicles over approximately 2 Kilometres and stopped at a distance on one side of the road -meeting the MDR-49 state road at Vagona-Khola junction inviting people’s attention.
Luckily, the people around noticed and rushed to help and a water tanker working for the underground electricity cabling works was requisitioned while calls were made to Fire and Emergency Services.
By the time, Fire tender arrived, the fire was controlled by spraying water from the water tanker, and fire fighters finally extinguished the fire with the help of fire tender, before it reached any other parts of the truck.
The aluminium carrier of the truck is the only affected body part of the truck in the fire, and according to sources no other parts of the truck got damaged by the fire.
