PANAJI: The Bombay High Court at Goa has dismissed two petitions challenging the reservation process for the upcoming Zilla Parishad elections. With the legal challenge cleared, the elections, scheduled for December 20, are now expected to proceed as planned.
The State Election Commission is likely to announce the election schedule and implement the model code of conduct by the end of this month or early December, depending on its discretion.
Last week, the High Court issued notice to the SEC on the two petitions that sought to quash the November 6 notification. In the petition challenging the reservation for South Goa, the petitioner argued that the Nuvem and Curtorim constituencies were incorrectly reserved for the OBC category. It was further contended that of the five seats reserved for OBCs, two should have been marked for OBC women, which has not been done.
