Panaji: The High Court of Bombay at Goa on dismissed a writ petition filed by Lalita Kankonkar challenging demolition orders against two illegal structures in Vasco, and directed the South Goa police to ensure that the decree is carried out without further delay.
Justice Valmiki Menezes noted that despite a demolition decree being passed as far back as 2013, its execution was repeatedly stalled by the petitioner through objections and appeals.
The court observed that a fresh warrant of demolition issued on September 11 was again obstructed on September 26, when nearly 200 people, including Vasco MLA Sankalp Amonkar, allegedly prevented court officials from carrying out the order.
Expressing concern over the police’s failure to provide protection during the operation, the court instructed the Superintendent of Police, South Goa, to personally oversee the demolition.
The Mormugao Police Inspector has been directed to extend all necessary assistance under the SP’s supervision and to submit a compliance report once the demolition of the 45 sq mtr house and the 10.60-metre retaining wall is completed.
