PANAJI: The High Court has directed the Registrar of Cooperative Societies to submit a detailed report on the status of the election process for the Goa State Cooperative Bank by May 8.
The directive comes in response to a petition alleging that the bank has failed to conduct elections for its board of directors and has not taken any steps to initiate the process.
The petitioner has also called for immediate disciplinary action against the responsible officials and urged the court to appoint an administrator to oversee the bank’s operations in the interim.
The court’s order underscores the urgency of ensuring democratic functioning and accountability within cooperative institutions.
Further hearings in the matter are expected after the Registrar’s submission.
