PANAJI: The Bombay High Court at Goa has taken on record a combined safety and public health report concerning the NH-66 Porvorim-Guirim stretch during the hearing of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) related to the elevated corridor project.
The PIL, filed by advocate Moses Pinto, who appeared in person, alleged that ongoing construction on the corridor has created serious road safety hazards and caused high levels of dust pollution, putting commuters and nearby residents at risk.
The court accepted the consolidated report submitted by the petitioner, which incorporated suggestions made in the court’s earlier order dated December 8, 2025, as well as findings from site inspections. The report pointed out several dangers along the corridor, including inadequate barricading, absence of advance warning signboards, unsafe transport of heavy construction materials on busy roads, and the lack of proper temporary service roads. Some stretches, it noted, have become nearly unusable for vehicles, posing significant safety risks.
The report also highlighted concerns over excessive dust affecting houses, vegetation, and public spaces in the vicinity.
In response, the State government, relevant departments, and project agencies, including the contractor, submitted compliance reports detailing safety measures, dust control plans, traffic management, and construction methods. The court recorded these submissions and scheduled the next hearing for January 29.
