PANAJI: The Bombay High Court in Goa has upheld the Registrar of Co-operative Societies’ order disqualifying several past and current board members, dealing a serious blow to the disqualified Goa Dairy Board of Directors. They were found guilty of irregularities that resulted in losses and negatively impacted the milk cooperative by the quasi-judicial order.
Following that, a plea challenging the Registrar of Co-operative Societies order was filed before the High Court by the disqualified members, including the then-chairman. The plea was dismissed on Thursday.
The Registrar of Co-operative Societies had declared that there were anomalies in the purchasing of milk from sources outside the State, the purchasing of ingredients that enhance protein, and the purchasing of cattle feed from dairy farms.
Additionally, it had denated a three-person administrative committee to oversee the Goa Dairy for a period of six months, or until elections were conducted to fill the positions left vacant by the disqualification.
For years, the Goa State Milk Producers Union Ltd., a cooperative that markets and sells goods under the “Goa Dairy” brand, has been beset by problems related to administration and accusations of wrongdoing against the management.
