CANACONA: The highly decomposed body of a 78-year-old Woman from Nanem-Gaondongrim was found at Gaunem dam on Monday.
According to sources, A human body was noticed lying on the shoreline/edge of Gaunem Dam in Gaondongrim and accordingly, police were alerted about the findings.
After police reached the spot the human remains highly decomposed were identified as that of a woman, and later the woman was identified as one Pomu Gaonkar (78).
Pomu Gaonkar has reportedly missing from Nanem-Gaondongrim for the last couple of months and the family has accordingly filed a missing report with Canacona police.
Police recovered the body and sent it for preservation and conduct of post-mortem at South Goa District Hospital Margao.
Sources informed the woman living alone with her children married off was not in good mental health and had not been seen for over 3 months, while her family members and relatives after searing her in vain for over a month had reported to the Police a month ago.
It is believed the woman had drowned in the dam some months ago and her saree stuck in some bushes she remained under the water, and only after the dam water had receded following the release of water, the body partly appeared and a dam attendant noticed it on Monday. The body was at least over two months, stated a police source.
When contacted Canacona PI Harish Raut Desai informed that the body is referred for post-mortem examination and no foul play is suspected.
