Mormugao: BITS Pilani, K K Birla Goa Campus, has expressed deep sorrow over the untimely death of Krishna Kasera, a second-year undergraduate student, who passed away on May 1. The institute described the incident as a “heartbreaking loss” that has left the campus community “shattered and in deep sorrow.”
In an official statement, the institute extended its condolences to Kasera’s family, friends, and peers. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and all those who knew him,” the statement read. “We recognize how difficult and unsettling this time is for every member of our community, especially for students who were close to him.”
Campus authorities are working in close coordination with the police, who are currently investigating the incident. The institute confirmed it is fully cooperating with the investigation and has also initiated an internal inquiry.
In response to the tragedy, BITS Pilani emphasized its ongoing efforts to support student well-being. A group of faculty members have recently completed the Young Mental Health First-Aiders certification programme, enabling them to serve as accessible points of support for students. The institute has also introduced listening circles in hostel common rooms, where faculty members engage with students to discuss academic, social, and campus life concerns.
Additionally, the Student Activity Centre has extended its hours and is now open throughout the day until late at night on Sundays and holidays. The on-campus counselling centre, Mpower, continues to offer sessions and maintains a 24×7 helpline for students.
Campus authorities have urged students to utilize these mental health and wellness facilities to maintain their physical and emotional well-being.
