PANAJI: The North Goa District Collector has announced restrictions on heavy commercial vehicles, particularly multi-axle trucks, on the Chorla Ghat route until September 26 due to dangerous monsoon conditions.
Officials cited sharp bends, slippery roads, and a higher risk of accidents as the primary reasons for the move.
Under the order, heavy vehicles will be barred from key areas, including NH-748 at Sanquelim, Honda, and near the Goa–Belagavi border, during daytime hours. Limited movement will only be allowed between 10:00 pm and 5:00 am.
However, residents and local authorities have expressed concerns over poor compliance with such directives.
Reports suggest that large-scale illegal transportation of sand and gravel from Belagavi into Goa continues despite earlier warnings and complaints.
The lack of strict enforcement has led locals to question the effectiveness of the order. Many are now demanding immediate and firm action to ensure road safety and uphold the law, warning that the restrictions risk becoming symbolic if violations persist.
