PANAJI: The Goa High Court has directed authorities to remove a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj that was allegedly installed without permission on land belonging to the Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) at Headland Sada.
In its order, the court instructed the South Goa Superintendent of Police to make necessary arrangements to maintain law and order during the removal process, anticipating possible public reaction.
The court has also permitted the petitioner to include Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar as a respondent in the case. Accordingly, a notice has been issued to Amonkar seeking his response.
The matter is scheduled to come up for further hearing on May 4, when the court will review compliance and consider the next course of action.
