Margao: The High Court of Bombay at Goa has directed the Government Advocate to provide specific details regarding parking arrangements in the upcoming new court complex at Margao, located in the Fatorda constituency.
The directive was issued during a hearing on a pending Suo Motu Public Interest Litigation (PIL) on July 28, 2025.
The court’s order follows concerns raised by Advocate Jatin Ramaiya, appearing on behalf of the South Goa Advocates Association (SGAA), who highlighted the inadequate provision for parking in the proposed complex. He pointed out that at least 200 car parking spaces would be required to meet the needs of the District Court as well as the civil and criminal courts.
SGAA President Prasad Naik echoed these concerns, stressing that insufficient parking could lead to congestion on public roads as lawyers and litigants would be forced to park outside the premises. He also expressed disappointment that the legal fraternity was not consulted during the planning stage of the complex. “The present parking plan is grossly inadequate,” Naik said, adding that the SGAA has been consistently raising the issue before all relevant authorities.
The new court complex is expected to house multiple courts, making adequate parking infrastructure a critical requirement.
