PANAJI: IMD in its weather bulletin has forecasted swell surges and rough sea conditions associated with the effect of high-period swell waves approaching.
“High Wave Warning for the coast of North Goa, from Chapora to Panaji (Malim): High waves in the range of 3.5 – 3.9 meters are forecasted from 17:30 hours on 25-06-2024 to 23:30 hours on 26-06-2024,” IMD release states.
It has further advised that small vessels not ply, nearshore recreation activities be totally suspended, and erosion/wave surges possible.
IMD has also forecasted high wave warning for the coast of South Goa, Goa from Santerem Pt (Vasco) To Kolamb.
“High waves in the range of 3.6 – 4.0 meters are forecasted during 17:30 hours on 25-06-2024 to 23:30 hours on 26-06-2024,” it states.
In addition, an orange alert has been issued for June 24 and 25 by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Goa. On those days, isolated locations in Goa are expected to experience heavy to extremely heavy rainfall along with strong surface winds.
A yellow alert has been issued for June 26 and 27, informing people to expect heavy rainfall and strong surface winds in certain areas.
Furthermore, from June 23 to June 27, squally weather is predicted along and off the South Maharashtra-Goa coast, with wind gusts reaching up to 55 kmph.
It is strongly advised that during this time, fishermen avoid going out into the sea off the coast of South Maharashtra and Goa. Authorities and coastal residents are asked to take the appropriate safety precautions and to stay informed about any local weather advisories.
