BHOMA: The Bhoma villagers have unanimously voted to request that local MLA Govind Gaude, through the village panchayat, support the construction of a bypass route rather than the planned widening of the present road.
During the meeting, locals challenged Sarpanch Damodar Naik and other panchayat members about their lack of support and failure to schedule a meeting with the Chief Minister, despite previous assurances.
They also stated that they had received property purchase and settlement offers from the Public Works Department but had refused them, reiterating their demand for a bypass road.
Sanjay Naik stated: “We won’t allow Bhoma to become like Mopa, where people have lost everything for government projects.”
The extension of National Highway (NH) 4A, which threatens to demolish residences and temples, has sparked strong protests from the Bhoma community.
Over the last two years, villagers have held over ten protests, with support from opposition organizations such as Congress, Goa Forward, and the Revolutionary Goans Party.
Their protests, which included instances of impeding Public Works Department (PWD) work, resulted in arrests. Despite these obstacles, the residents are steadfast in their call for a bypass road to defend their settlement.
