SANGUEM: A huge historic idol of Lord Betal which was shifted from Curdi village to Kapsemol area of Ugem panchayat during the rehabilitation done at Selaulim dam construction, needs attention.
Before the construction of Selaulim dam, the submerged Curdi village had three main temples which were of Mahalaxmi, Someshwar and Betal. After the construction of Selaulim dam the Curdi village was on the verge of submersion and at this time the temples were relocated to various other parts of the Sanguem and Quepem area by the locals who were also rehabilitated.
According to Laxmi Devidas whose husband was brought as a caretaker of lord Betal at that time said in the last 35 years nobody showed interest or willingness to do rituals of lord Betal.
Presently the situation of this idol, it is kept in a small house whose condition isn’t very well. One house looking after the idol of Lord Betal at kapsemol village Ugem panchayat without financial assistance told by Laxmi Devidas caretaker of idol of lord Betal.
