New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday began a landmark three-nation tour to Jordan, Ethiopia, and Oman, countries with which India shares long-standing civilisational links and extensive modern-day relations.
In his departure statement, PM Modi highlighted the significance of the journey, noting the combination of historical bonds and contemporary partnerships that India maintains with these nations. The first stop is Jordan, where he is visiting at the invitation of His Majesty King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein. The visit commemorates 75 years of diplomatic relations between India and Jordan. During his stay in Amman, the Prime Minister will hold detailed discussions with King Abdullah II, Prime Minister Jafar Hassan, and Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah.
From Jordan, PM Modi will travel to Ethiopia, marking his first visit to the country, at the invitation of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali. In Addis Ababa, he will engage in talks with the Ethiopian leadership and meet the Indian diaspora. He is also scheduled to address the Joint Session of the Ethiopian Parliament, where he will share insights on India’s journey as the “Mother of Democracy” and explore the potential of India–Ethiopia cooperation in advancing the interests of the Global South.
The final leg of the tour takes him to the Sultanate of Oman, commemorating 70 years of diplomatic ties between the two nations. In Muscat, PM Modi will meet His Majesty the Sultan of Oman to strengthen strategic, commercial, and economic partnerships. He will also address the Indian community in Oman, recognising their contribution to the country’s development and to deepening bilateral relations.
This three-nation tour underscores India’s commitment to enhancing diplomatic engagement, economic collaboration, and cultural exchanges with countries in West Asia and Africa. The visit reflects both historical connections and shared contemporary interests, reinforcing India’s role as a proactive partner on the global stage.
