MORMUGAO: A hit-and-run accident was reported on the recently inaugurated Port Connectivity Flyover on Sunday morning after a speeding car collided with a bike and fled the scene.
The accident occurred when the bike, moving towards Sada, was struck by a car attempting to turn towards the port connectivity arm from the four-lane highway. Fortunately, there was no loss of life, and both the rider and pillion escaped with minor injuries.
Locals immediately alerted the police, who arrived at the scene and rushed the injured duo to Chicalim Sub-District Hospital for medical assistance. Meanwhile, the car fled without attending to the injured.
This incident marks the third accident on this stretch within a few days. Earlier, a car overturned along a sharp curve, and a loaded truck fell sideways, spilling its cargo from the flyover onto the busy road below.
Concerned locals have urged authorities to take immediate action by making traffic signals functional and installing speed breakers and rumblers at sharp curves and intersections to prevent further mishaps. Police have begun an investigation into the hit-and-run case.
