Bicholim: A 51-year-old man from Karnataka was arrested and released on bail in connection with a hit-and-run incident that occurred at Pirachikond, Bicholim on July 24. The accident left a scooter rider injured after being struck by a rashly driven car.
According to the complaint filed by Head Constable Yuvraj Naik of Bicholim Police Station, the incident took place around 3:20 PM on July 24, when a white Swift car bearing Karnataka registration (KA-22) hit an electric Bajaj Chetak scooter (GA-04-R-5923) that was travelling in the same direction from Dodamarg to Bicholim. The scooter rider, Mahendra Mandrekar (49), a resident of Katarwada-Dhaabadhaba in Bicholim, sustained injuries to his right hand and leg. The injuries were classified as simple.
The driver of the car fled the scene without offering medical aid or reporting the accident to the authorities. CCTV footage from the vicinity led police to detain a Swift car bearing number KA-22-Z-9494. Upon questioning, the driver, identified as Prabhakar Yallappa Bhekane of Balagamatti, Navage, Belgaum (Karnataka), confessed to the crime.
Bhekane was arrested on July 25 at 1:22 PM and released on bail an hour later. Police confirmed that all arrest procedures were carried out in compliance with Supreme Court guidelines. Investigation is ongoing under the supervision of Head Constable Yuvraj Naik.
