PANAJI: Goa Police have registered a case against the owner of Oravel Stays Ltd (OYO) for allegedly impersonating a local hotel and fraudulently diverting its customers through an online booking platform.
According to police, the case was registered on October 9, 2025, at 6:59 pm at Mandrem Police Station following a complaint by Mr. Nimpha Rodrigues, proprietor of Oceans 7 Hotels and Resorts, located at Ashwem Waddo, Mandrem, Pernem.
Between August 21 and September 16, 2025, the accused allegedly used the website oyorooms.com/15908 to impersonate the complainant’s property by publishing its name and photographs without authorization. Police stated that the fraudulent listing was used to accept online bookings from prospective customers of Oceans 7 Hotels, who were later diverted to other resorts, causing a financial loss of ₹19,69,368 to the complainant.
The offence has been registered under Sections 336(4) and 356 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 66(D) of the Information Technology Act, 2000, read with the Information Technology (Amendment) Act, 2008.
The investigation is being conducted by PI Girendra Naik of Mandrem Police Station. Police said that further investigation is in progress.
