CURCHOREM: Within 24 hour of Goa celebrating World Environment Day after there was a huge destruction of hill at Taki Davodxet, village of Curchorem constituency.
Alert citizens after learning about the hill cutting immediately complained to local police and panchayat authorities.
A local Guru Gawas speaking to media said that there were no permission or intimation to the local panchayat about the hill cutting.
He said the hill cutting was being carried out on a holiday just to dodge the authorities.
“There are migrants behind this kind of hill cutting. As an alert citizens of my village I have raised the issue as such destruction could cause landslides,” he said.
Ali Sheikh, another local said who is also general secretary of South Goa District Congress said that this is very dangerous act.
“This place is very close to water tank and hill cutting will cause landslides and which would be dangerous in monsoons,” he said.
He said the local Xeldem panchayat should know what’s going on in their area.
When Sarpanch of Xldem Caitan Lima was contacted, he said, there is no intimation from the local panch or owner about hill coutting.
“No permission was granted for even taking JCB in the area. I don’t know if they took permission from Town and Country planning office Quepem,” he added.
Panchayat secretary Ravindra Vaddikar also expressed ignorance of any such issue.
“We have not granted any permission and after locals complained we have acted and stopped work,” he said.
He stated that such hill cutting permission should be taken from deputy collector’s office.
