Pernem: Pernem Police have registered a case of housebreaking and theft following a complaint filed by a 56-year-old woman from Tuem village in Pernem taluka.
According to police sources, Pernem Police Station registered Crime No. 02/2026 on January 6 at around 5.25 pm under Sections 331(3) and 305(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The complaint was lodged by Mrs. Nilima, wife of Gopal Gawde, a resident of House No. 182, Gaonkarwada, Tuem, Pernem.
The complainant stated that on February 5, 2025, between 9.00 am and 5.30 pm, unknown accused person(s) forcibly entered her house by breaking the main door lock. The accused allegedly decamped with a gold mangalsutra weighing approximately 42 grams, valued at around ₹4.50 lakh, which was kept in a cupboard drawer in the bedroom.
On returning home, the complainant discovered the break-in and the missing gold ornament, following which a complaint was lodged with the Pernem Police.
Further investigation in the case is in progress and is being carried out by PSI Sahil Naik of Pernem Police Station.
