MAYEM: In a landmark move aimed at providing ownership rights to long-time residents, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant on Monday launched the ‘Mhaje Ghar’ Yojana Awareness Campaign at Mayem, marking the beginning of a state-wide initiative to regularise houses built on government and Communidade land.
Speaking at the launch event, Dr. Sawant announced that for the first time in India, houses constructed on government land will be formally registered in the names of the occupants.
“Residents of Mayem, who have faced many hardships over the years, will be the first to receive their ‘Mhaje Ghar Yojana’ application forms,” the Chief Minister said, adding that the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring housing security and dignity for Goans.
The event, held in the presence of Rajya Sabha MP Sadanand Tanawade and Mayem MLA Premendra Shet, also marked the start of the distribution of application forms across Goa.
The ‘Mhaje Ghar’ Yojana aims to regularise houses constructed on government and Communidade land, as well as unauthorised structures on private land completed before the cut-off date specified in the scheme.
To facilitate a smooth application process, the government has released a detailed booklet outlining scheme guidelines, application formats, necessary documents, and step-by-step instructions.
Officials and stakeholders have been briefed on implementation mechanisms to ensure transparency and efficiency in execution.
Dr. Sawant emphasised that the scheme is a key step toward fulfilling the vision of “housing for all” in Goa and empowering citizens with legal ownership of their homes.
