VERNA: A human skull with the jaw was found lying in an open field at Tonttem in Cansaulim late Friday night, triggering an investigation by Verna police. The skeletal remains were noticed during routine beat patrolling after a police constable received specific information about a skull lying in the field.
Acting on the input, police rushed to the spot and confirmed that a human skull with the jaw of an unknown person was lying exposed in the open area. The surrounding area was inspected, and preliminary enquiries were conducted to ascertain any immediate clues about the identity of the deceased or the circumstances in which the remains were found.
The skull was later shifted and preserved at South Goa District Hospital, Margao, for further medico-legal examination and necessary forensic formalities to determine its age and origin.
Verna police has registered a case of unnatural death under section 194 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Further enquiry is being carried out by PSI Rajdatt Arsekar of Verna police station under the supervision of PI Anand Shirodkar and the guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
