MOBOR: Human Touch Foundation, in collaboration with the Department of Medical Oncology at Goa Medical College (GMC), commemorated International Childhood Cancer Day with a special outreach programme titled “Joyful Hearts” at Holiday Inn Resort Goa on Sunday.
The initiative brought together children undergoing cancer treatment, their caregivers, doctors, nurses, therapists, and volunteers for a day dedicated to joy, solidarity, and emotional support.
Hosted at the seaside property in Mobor, the event created a warm and uplifting environment where children participated in games, creative activities, music, face painting, and shared meals. For many families, the programme offered a much-needed break from hospital routines and the demands of ongoing treatment.
Peter F. Borges, President of Human Touch Foundation, said the occasion was a reminder that healing extends beyond clinical care.
“On International Childhood Cancer Day, we are reminded that while medical treatment fights the disease, it is compassion, community, and collective care that sustain a child’s spirit. Through this initiative, we wanted every child to feel seen, celebrated, and never alone in their journey,” he said.
Dr. Anupama Borkar, Head of the Department of Medical Oncology at GMC, emphasized the importance of holistic care in pediatric oncology. She noted that emotional and psychosocial support play a crucial role in strengthening a child’s resilience and recovery alongside medical treatment.
The outreach programme underscored that childhood cancer care goes beyond hospital walls and is strengthened when healthcare professionals, civil society, and community partners come together to support families during one of the most challenging phases of their lives.
Human Touch Foundation expressed gratitude to the Department of Medical Oncology at GMC and the team at Holiday Inn, Mobor, for their support in making the initiative meaningful and impactful.
