PANAJI: A Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court has remanded 25-year-old Abdul Altaf, a known offender from Hyderabad, to seven days of police custody in connection with the murder of a security guard at Casino in Campal, Panaji.
The incident took place in the early hours of Thursday, when Altaf allegedly got into a heated altercation with the casino’s security personnel. In a violent outburst, he reportedly attacked the guards using a wooden rod with an iron clamp, which he retrieved from a nearby staircase.
Dheeru Sharma, 33, a security guard from Satna, Madhya Pradesh, suffered serious head injuries and succumbed while being rushed to Goa Medical College. Another guard, 27-year-old Satyam Gaonkar from Shiroda, also sustained a head injury during the attack.
Altaf, a resident of Misri Ganj near Charminar in Hyderabad, was intercepted by police while attempting to flee towards Dabolim Airport. North Goa Superintendent of Police Rahul Gupta confirmed that Altaf has a criminal background and is listed at the Mailardevpally police station in Hyderabad.
A special investigation team led by SP Rahul Gupta and SDPO Sudesh Naik is actively probing the case. Authorities are currently interrogating Altaf to determine the motive behind the assault and gather further evidence.
