PANAJI: Ensuring safe and hygienic food for the people of Goa remains a priority, with authorities conducting a surveillance drive in Tiswadi covering the Mala and St. Inez areas. A total of 21 food establishments, primarily fast food units and restaurants, were inspected during the exercise.
All the inspected units were issued improvement notices to enhance hygiene and sanitation standards.
Three establishments were directed to immediately stop operations due to serious lapses, while two units were fined ₹5,000 each for non-compliance with food safety norms. The remaining establishments have been granted 14 days to implement the required improvements, failing which strict action, including suspension of licences, will be initiated.
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said the government is committed to safeguarding public health through continuous monitoring and enforcement.
“Ensuring safe and hygienic food for the people of Goa remains our priority. Such surveillance drives will continue over the coming months to ensure sustained compliance. Establishments failing to adhere to hygiene standards will face strict action, including suspension of licences,” the minister said.
He further stressed that regular inspections are being intensified across the state to improve hygiene standards and protect consumers.
