After an eight-year hiatus, the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy is set to make a grand return, this time with a significantly enhanced prize pool that promises to elevate the competition to new heights. The 2025 edition, scheduled to take place in Pakistan from February 19 to March 9, marks a historic moment for the country as it hosts its first global cricket event since the 1996 50-over World Cup.
The winners of this prestigious tournament will walk away with a substantial $2.24 million, a figure that underscores the ICC’s commitment to investing in the sport. ICC Chair Jay Shah emphasized that this tournament is a pivotal moment for cricket, highlighting the pinnacle of ODI talent and the critical nature of every match.
The ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 will feature eight top ODI teams divided into two groups of four. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinals, setting the stage for intense competition. Here’s a breakdown of the prize money:
• Champions: $2.24 million
• Runners-up: $1.12 million
• Losing Semifinalists: $560,000 each
• Group Stage Wins: $34,000 per match
• Fifth and Sixth Place: $350,000 each
• Seventh and Eighth Place: $140,000 each
• Participation Fee: $125,000 for each team
The total prize pool of $6.9 million represents a 53% increase from the 2017 edition, reflecting the ICC’s growing investment in the sport.
Pakistan, hosting the tournament for the first time in nearly three decades, will see matches played in Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi. This event is not only a celebration of cricket but also a significant step in fostering the growth and long-term sustainability of the sport globally.
The ICC Men’s Champions Trophy will be held every four years, featuring the world’s top eight ODI teams. Additionally, a Women’s Champions Trophy in T20 format is scheduled to debut in 2027, further expanding the reach and inclusivity of the sport.
