DABOLIM: The Indian Coast Guard District Headquarters No. 11 (Goa) along with Mormugao Port Authority conducted a Area level pollution response exercise from May 15-16, 2024 at MPA premises.
The exercise aimed to enhance cooperation among various stakeholders involved in maritime pollution response,validate and practice Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for pollution response and assess the preparedness of the state of Goa, MPA and minor ports and partner agencies in handling pollution related incidents.
The event was inaugurated by the Deputy Chairman of Mormugao Port Trust, Goa, Shri Satish Honnakkatte. In his keynote address, he emphasized the crucial role of Coast Guard as Nodal agency collaborating between all stakeholders in safeguarding the coastline and maintaining a clean marine environment.
Representatives from various organizations participated in the exercise, viz GSPCB, DC South Goa, National Institute of Oceanography (Goa), Fisheries Department (Goa), Indian Oil Corporation Ltd, Captain of Ports and Oil Handling Agencies.
All participants actively engaged in the two-day exercise, showcasing their capabilities, discussing challenges, and offering recommendations for improved efficiency in pollution response.
The exercise proved to be highly productive, fostering stronger collaboration and coordination among all stakeholders involved in maritime pollution response. This enhanced preparedness will ensure a more effective response to any future pollution incidents in the state.
