CURTORIM: Two individuals were arrested in connection with organizing an illegal bullfight in an open field at Curtorim, posing risks to public safety and violating animal cruelty laws.
According to a state complaint registered under HC-4542, filed by Head Constable Sagar Mandrekar of Maina Curtorim Police Station, the incident took place on July 13 at around 5:30 PM.
The accused, identified as Menino Fernandes, a resident of Nuvem, and Antonio Pacheco from Curtorim, allegedly arranged the bullfight with the intent to entertain gathered spectators.
Police stated that the event not only subjected the bulls to cruelty but also endangered the lives of the public present at the location.
Both accused were arrested at the scene but were later released on bail. The case is being further investigated by PSI Sagar Kamat of Maina Curtorim Police Station.
Authorities have reiterated that such acts are a violation of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and warned that strict action will be taken against anyone found organizing or participating in such events.
