MARGAO: Colva Police have registered a case after an illegal bullfight (dhirio) held in Majorda led to the death of a spectator on Sunday morning.
According to police, despite a High Court ban and standing orders from the District Magistrate, the accused — identified as Santano Cardozo (43) of Curtorim, Joaquim Pereira (48) of Majorda, Raymond and Ravi (both residents of Betalbatim, presently in America), and Rui Minezes of Curtorim — allegedly organised a bullfight between two bulls named Godfather and Chando in an open field at Ultima Parte, Majorda, between 10.30 am and 11.30 am on September 22.
During the fight, one of the bulls, Chando, turned aggressive and gored a spectator, Rajesh Nagush Nistani (42) of Guirdolim, causing grievous injuries. He later succumbed while undergoing treatment at South Goa District Hospital, Margao.
Police said the accused not only violated the High Court’s directions but also endangered human life by organising the event for public entertainment.
