PONDA: Ponda Police have initiated action against two individuals for allegedly operating an illegal cattle slaughter facility and disposing of carcasses in a hazardous manner at Nirancal, Bethoda.
The case was registered following a complaint filed by Raj Pratik, Officer with the District Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (South), operating under the office of the Collector, South Goa.
According to the complaint, accused Vikas Prabhu, a resident of Nirancal and owner of a cow shed and dairy in the locality, along with Shabir Hangal, also a dairy farmer from the same area, allegedly ran an unauthorised slaughter operation within Prabhu’s property. The duo is further accused of disposing of cattle carcasses and bones in an unsafe and hazardous manner in the vicinity of the cow shade.
Police said the acts not only violated animal cruelty norms but also posed a public health and environmental threat due to improper waste disposal.
The investigation has been handed over to PSI Chetan Naik of Ponda Police Station, who is verifying evidence and monitoring further action.
