TALEIGAO: In Dona Paula, the Department of Information Technology, Electronics & Communications (DITE&C) started removing encroachments this morning.
During the drive, a big tin shed and an illegally constructed compound wall were destroyed.
In addition, encroachers were cultivating a garden and putting large equipment on the property. About 25,000 square meters of land in this desirable location are owned by the department.
According to sources, land previously purchased for the Rajiv Gandhi IT Habitat project was encroached upon by a powerful individual who owns Goa’s oldest newspaper.
A show-cause notice was handed to an unidentified individual by Tiswadi Deputy Collector Rajesh Ajgaonkar following a representation from Goa Infotech Corporation of Goa Limited.
According to the representation, there was illegal construction and encroachment by unidentified individuals on the land with Taleigao village panchayat survey number 236/1.
In the master plan created for the Rajiv Gandhi IT Habitat, Dona Paula, the land, which is owned by GICG, was designated for a clubhouse and residential complex.
During their examination, engineers from the Infotech Corporation of Goa noticed encroachments, such as the building of a road with a black top. They also saw that an unidentified individual had constructed a gate with two columns and an illegal, unapproved compound wall.
Additionally, the notification asserted that an area designated as an open space in the Rajiv Gandhi IT Habitat master plan had been the site of the unlawful erection of a compound wall. The responder was given seven days to provide a response to the notice, which was sent out on February 18.
