TALEIGAO: A case of unauthorized land filling and dumping of construction debris has been reported in Taleigao, Tiswadi, Goa. The North Goa Planning and Development Authority (NGPDA) has lodged a formal complaint against two individuals for allegedly violating provisions of the Town and Country Planning (TCP) Act, 1974.
The complaint, filed by Vikram Tengse, Assistant Engineer of the NGPDA, states that the accused persons—Francis Xavier Vaz, occupant of property under Survey No. 67/11, and Maria Sebastian Fernandes, occupant of Survey No. 67/12, both located near Advalpalkar Shelter in Taleigao—illegally filled a low-lying area with soil and construction debris.
The unauthorised activity was reportedly carried out prior to July 24, 2024, over an approximate area measuring 13.00 metres by 3.00 metres, with a height of 1.20 metres, without obtaining the required permissions from the competent authority.
Authorities say this act is in clear contravention of the TCP Act, 1974, which governs land development and construction norms in Goa. The illegal filling poses concerns not only over zoning violations but also potential environmental implications.
A police investigation is currently underway. The authorities have indicated that further action will be taken based on the findings of the inquiry.
Residents in the area have raised concerns over unregulated construction and the ecological impact of such activities in low-lying zones. The NGPDA has reiterated its commitment to strict enforcement of planning laws.
