VERNA: A case of illegal extraction and theft of minerals has been registered at Verna Police Station following a complaint lodged by Omkar Naik Gaonkar, Geologist, Directorate of Mines and Geology, Panjim.
As per the complaint, prior to 22/12/2025 at Verna village in Salcete taluka, unknown persons allegedly extracted and transported laterite boulders and ordinary earth from a property belonging to the State Government without obtaining permission from the competent authority.
The illegal activity was reportedly carried out using unidentified vehicles.
The accused are alleged to have committed theft of minerals, causing an estimated loss of approximately Rs. 1,24,370 to the State Government.
Further investigation is being conducted by PSI Rajdatt Arsekar of Verna Police Station.
