QUEPEM: The Directorate of Mines and Geology (DMG), in coordination with the Quepem police, conducted a raid late Tuesday evening at Quepem and inspected an illegally operating laterite stone quarry.
Officials from the DMG carried out the inspection following inputs about unauthorized quarrying activity in the area.
During the raid, the team found that the laterite stone quarry was functioning without the required permissions and clearances, violating mining regulations.
The Quepem police provided support during the operation to ensure law and order and to facilitate the inspection.
Action is being initiated by the Directorate of Mines and Geology against those responsible for the illegal quarrying, including the initiation of legal proceedings as per applicable laws.
Further investigation is underway to ascertain the extent of illegal extraction and to identify the persons involved.
